Portfolio: Editorial: 606 Access Park

Access park along the 606. The 606 is a linear park on the site of the former Bloomingdale Line, a 2.7-mile east-west railroad on the northwest side of Chicago. The 2004 Logan Square Open Space Plan called for the transformation of the elevated railroad into a greenway, that would connect the Logan Square, Humboldt Park, Bucktown and Wicker Park neighborhoods. Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates worked with the City of Chicago and the surrounding communities to design the neighborhood amenity. Features along the 606 include access parks, perimeter plantings, seating and viewing opportunities, to provide space for programs and events that require more than what is available on the elevated portion.
